“Children of Enlightenment” is a new concert programme by Dee Kourtsman, who for many years has woven together the sounds of Russian rock, Celtic music, and singer-songwriter tradition into an honest conversation about our time and what it means to be human. These are songs about the childhood that never ends with age, about grown-up children forced to learn how to live again in a world that has fallen apart, about the quiet courage of everyday life, about lanterns and lighthouses. And above all, they are about people who continue to recognise one another and search for a way forward, even when the map stopped matching the territory long ago.
Dee Kourtsman is a wandering minstrel from St. Petersburg, a songwriter and the frontman of the folk-rock band The Dartz. His music brings together Celtic folk and Renaissance music, Russian rock and romances, songs from Soviet cinema and the idealism of the 1960s. He wrote most of The Dartz’s songs, from “Cutty Sark” and “Samhain Fires” to “Born in Ireland,” “When the Sea Calls You,” “Cherepovets,” and “Pain and Voronezh.”
Alongside the new songs, the concert will also feature the music audiences have been coming back to for many years: songs by The Dartz and from Di’s solo work, Irish, Scottish, and Breton melodies, and old stories that still make you want to sing along together.
