About
PANIKA is a New York jazz ensemble whose music is built on a fusion of jazz tradition and the rich heritage of Balkan folklore, drawing on the past to shape the sound of the future. Combining the energy and momentum of the New York jazz scene, where they now create, with the lyricism and melodicism of their homelands, the members of the ensemble reinterpret the classic jazz quartet format in an original way through a broader cultural lens. The result is a contemporary and authentic musical expression deeply rooted in tradition, encompassing original compositions as well as new interpretations of traditional folk songs and jazz standards. The quartet consists of four prominent young musicians from the international jazz scene who now live and work in New York, where they developed their artistic expression alongside some of the most respected masters of improvised music. As performers, they have appeared at festivals around the world, including the Panama Jazz Festival, EFG London Jazz Festival and Boston Progressive Jazz Festival. In addition to their work with their own ensemble, they have collaborated and shared the stage with renowned artists such as Tim Miller, Kenny Werner, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Soweto Kinch, Tony Malaby and Roman Díaz.
