About
Marta Sánchez Trio, one of the most distinctive groups on the contemporary jazz scene, comes to Bluz i Pivo on August 19, led by Spanish pianist and composer Marta Sánchez. As part of the Perpetual Void tour, the lineup is: Marta Sánchez — piano Kanoa Mendel Hall — double bass Mark Whitfield Jr. — drums The trio is presenting the album Perpetual Void on tour, released by the Swiss label Intakt Records after performances in New York. In this format, the compositions gain even more space for interaction, improvisation and collective creation — three equal voices building the music together in the moment. Trio leader Marta Sánchez (1983) was born in Madrid and built her international career between Spain and New York. She has lived in New York since 2011, where she studied jazz performance at New York University as a Fulbright scholar. She has released four acclaimed albums, including Partenika and El Rayo de Luz, which were included among the year's ten best albums by The New York Times critics. She has collaborated with numerous prominent jazz musicians and, as a member of David Murray's quartet, also performed in Serbia last year at the Pančevo Jazz Festival. After years of working in a quintet, Sánchez decided to form a trio to open up even more space for mutual listening, spontaneity and improvisation. An evening of contemporary jazz awaits us, one that does not rely only on predetermined forms but leaves enough room for every moment of the concert to develop in front of the audience.
