XIU XIU presents ERASERHEAD January 29, 2027 / Belgrade / Teatar 78 The extravagant avant-pop ensemble Xiu Xiu, currently consisting of Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo, will present their audiovisual interpretation of David Lynch’s cult classic Eraserhead in Belgrade. This is not the first time Xiu Xiu have entered into a dialogue with the maestro. Many will remember their tribute to the series Twin Peaks. Jamie Stewart and Lawrence English also created music for one of Lynch’s art exhibitions at the director’s own invitation. And we can’t help but notice the eerie resemblance between Jamie and the protagonist of Lynch’s film Lost Highway. For all these reasons, as well as countless others, the passing of one of the most eccentric directors of the 20th century could hardly go unnoticed by Xiu Xiu. This time, we won’t be getting a literal interpretation of the classic, but rather a kind of “fan fiction” — an adaptation built around handmade instruments, modular synthesizers, authentic screams and electric interference, all used to express the bizarre, untamed sexuality and relentless darkness of the film. Lynch often described Eraserhead as his most spiritual film. You can discover how that spirituality will be reflected through Xiu Xiu’s shattered mirrors on January 29 at Teatar 78.
