About
Too many cold, murky waves have passed beneath Belgrade's bridges since the last time artists from New York's legendary Wierd minimal synth scene set foot here—Xeno & Oaklander and Nao Katafuchi back in 2014. At long last, one of Wierd's defining names is finally coming to Belgrade: AUTOMELODI! Seductive, elegant, glacial, and above all POP, Automelodi's sound gets under your skin with its melodies, into your bones with its drum machines, and into your soul with its melancholy. The mind behind this timeless blend is Xavier Paradis, whose story began long before the Wierd era. Back in the late 1990s, under the alias Arnaud Lazlaud, Xavier had already forged his unmistakable style. He later fronted the Montreal glam electro outfit Echo Kitty. It was revival before the revival existed, and once his music was picked up by respected minimal synth labels in Europe and the US, including Hertz-Schrittmacher, he emerged on the scene with the pedigree of someone who had arrived a decade ahead of everyone else—almost making the entire wave of nostalgic revivalists seem late to the party, as if asking, "Where have you all been?" Over the years, Xavier has worked as a songwriter, producer, engineer, and musician with artists including Liz Wendelbo, Jef Barbara, Laura Krieg, The Harrow, Bootblacks, and Silent EM—just listen to the outstanding Real Life album to hear the results of one of those collaborations. If you're a fan of Soft Cell, Soft Riot, John Maus, IV/AN, Mount Sims, Martin Dupont, Desireless, Videosex, Boy Harsher, or Lio, this is a concert you simply can't miss. The evergreen sound of the future.
